  • Latin Overview

The mastery of simple grammatical constructions is balanced with the opportunity for translation both from Latin to English and English to Latin. Students first acquire a working knowledge of basic English grammar as an underpinning to their learning of Latin grammar, then they master foreign concepts such as declension, gender, case, and number for nouns and adjectives, as well as conjugation, person, and tense for verbs. Students also learn to recognize and translate prepositional phrases, adverbs, and the imperative mood. Connections are made between Latin vocabulary and English derivatives, sparking an interest in etymology in general. Developing an understanding of Roman culture and history further enhances the importance of learning and mastering Latin.
