Our mission and vision:
Since our founding in 1969, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to providing a rich and rigorous education for our students and to creating a warm and nurturing environment in which they can explore their passions and expand their intellectual horizons. The Academy’s mission is to develop thoughtful, ambitious and deep learners. We honor our students’ individuality while cultivating their sense of integrity, their respect for others, and their commitment to service in a global society. We are proud to be an academic community in which every member – faculty, staff, student, and family – feels galvanized to explore, create, and investigate: to take intellectual risks and to trust that they will be supported in that risk-taking. Our 6:1 student-to-teacher ratio, our expert teachers, and our atmosphere of high expectations confirm our commitment to deep and meaningful learning for each student.
Students who apply to The Academy do so because they crave learning: they are curious about and engaged with the world around them, and far from relying on competition or other external motivators to propel their academic success, our students value learning for the sake of learning.
We envision that Academy graduates will embody the following key characteristics and values as lifelong learners, change agents, and empathetic human beings:
- The Academy lifelong learner is committed to excellence in whatever they do. They are knowledgeable, curious, self-reflective, creative, and problem solvers.
- The Academy graduate is motivated to make positive changes in the world. As change agents, they are socially responsible and historically aware.
- The Academy graduate is an empathetic human being with strong principles, ethics, humility, and honesty. They appreciate and respect difference and diversity in others. They are socially and emotionally skilled, self-confident, and kind. They have a balance of both physical and mental health.
