Amelia Miazad has been the Chair of the Board of Trustees at The Academy since 2014. Amelia is the mother of two daughters at The Academy, Aria (5th grade) and Enna (2nd grade). Amelia is also the founding director of Berkeley Law’s new Business in Society Institute. The institute studies the changing role that companies are playing in society, a topic that is being debated by legal scholars, policy makers, courts, the media, and corporate leaders. The Business in Society Institute’s mission is to prepare lawyers to address this new landscape. In furtherance of this mission, Amelia teaches courses, and leads the institute’s research, curriculum development, and programming. Before beginning her work in higher education, Amelia practiced law. She holds JD from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
Arthur has served as finance chair on The Academy’s Board since 2014 and brings his considerable experience in the fields of investment management and insurance to bear on his work here. As Associate Chief Investment Officer for the University of California system, he leads investment strategy and process for $15 billion UC Defined Contribution plan and leads client relations, investment operations, business management, and operational risk and compliance teams. Before relocating to the Bay Area with his family in 2015, Arthur worked as Vice President, Investment Middle Office for Alberta Investment Management Corporation. He has also worked as an auditor. He specializes in strategic development, organizational design, and business design and re-design.
Vivek Mohta Ph.D. is a Founding Partner at Dataholiks a data science consulting firm in Silicon Valley where he leads business operations. Previously, he has led data products, data analytics, and strategy for: a decision support publishing platform; an industry consortium for energy technology; a public investment fund to deploy energy technology; and a state energy policy agency. He has also served as a technical advisor to a member of Congress and to the Executive Office of the President. In his academic career, his research in high-energy physics was published in peer-reviewed journals and he was recognized for excellent teaching. He earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Harvard University and an S.B. in Mathematics and S.B. in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
